  • Domain Names
    1. What is a domain name?

      A domain name is a license to use a specific name on the Internet for a specific period of time (generally 1-2 years). An example of a domain name is tppinternet.com.au.
      The most common uses for domain names are as website addresses (www.tppinternet.com.au) and/or email addresses (techsupport@tppinternet.com.au).

    2. I have registered a Domain Name, now what do I do?

      Once your domain name has been successfully registered, you will need hosting in order to use the domain name for email addresses and to display a website.

      TPP Internet offers a number of different hosting packages that will allow you to set up professional email addresses using your new domain name
      (e.g. bob@yournewdomainname.com.au) and display a website.

    3. How can registering domain names assist in protecting my brand online?

      Some people believe that registering a business name, ABN or ACN will enable them to have exclusive registration rights of the same name as a domain name; however the various domain name spaces operate independently from the various business registers.
      There is no guarantee that your business name will be available to register as a domain name, so it is imperative that you register your name as a domain name as soon as you register your business name. Consider the registration of your business name as a domain name as an important minimal cost investment in your intellectual property and brand protection strategy.

      All Registrars, including TPP Internet, are bound by the 2009 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) between ICANN and it's accredited registrars.   • .TEL Domain Names
    1. What is .tel?

      The .tel is a service that allows individuals and businesses alike to store and manage all their contact information and keywords directly in the DNS without the need to build, host or manage a website.

    2. Why is .tel different than other Top Level Domains (TLDs)?

      The value of a .tel domain lies with the ability to host personal (or corporate) contact information directly in the DNS, which can then be universally accessible. This stands in contrast to the typical use of the DNS for other TLDs, in which the DNS only provides a mapping between domain names and IP addresses.

    3. Can I protect my private data?

      The .tel enables you to protect your private data, allowing it to be seen only by people you authorize.

    4. When can I buy a .tel domain?

      Landrush Period - pre-register NOW until 23 March 2009.
      General Availability - all remaining .TEL domains will be open for registration from March 24.

    5. What is the difference between Landrush Period and General Availability?

      Landrush
      Landrush opened on 3 February 2009 and closes at 23:59 GMT on 23 March 2009. Any domain that is not registered during Sunrise will be eligible for Landrush registration at a premium price. Landrush registrations will carry a three-year minimum term. The selection method is first-come, first-served. There is no validation involved.

      General Availability
      General Availability opens at 15:00 GMT on 24 March 2009 and will be open to everyone. General Availability registrations will carry a one-year minimum term. The selection method is first-come, first-served. There is no validation involved.

    6. How much will a .tel domain name cost?

      During landrush, .tel domains will cost $899.

    7. For what term can I buy a .tel domain?

      Simply register your domain through our website. We will let you know within a short period of time whether your application has been successful. Please view our Terms and Conditions.

    8. What are the restrictions on a .tel domain?

      The minimum number of characters in a .tel domain is 3 and the maximum number is 63 not including the .tel suffix. Every domain must contain at least one letter from a-z or 'A to Z' in standard US ASCII script. No domain can begin or end with a hyphen nor can a domain have a hyphen in the 3rd and 4th position. A .tel domain may not consist purely of digits.

    9. Can I transfer or sell a .tel domain name?

      You can sell or transfer a .tel domain just as you would with other domain names.

    10. How do I resolve a dispute regarding a .tel domain name?

      .tel domain names are subject to the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), which establishes a procedure for resolving many trademark disputes relating to domain names.

  • Premium Domain Names
    1. What is the difference between a standard domain name and a premium domain name?

      When searching for domain names usually a registrar shows you domain names are available for registration in the relevant registry, but in addition to this TPP Internet offers a service to our customers that allows them to list their domain names for sale. So when you are purchasing a premium domain name you are purchasing a domain name from another registrant that is a TPP Internet customer, who is wishing to sell it.

    2. Is there any risk involved in purchasing a premium domain name?

      Because the domain names offered for sale are all held by existing customers of TPP Internet, we are able to act for both parties to ensure that the change of ownership proceeds when buying a premium domain name.

      Payment for the domain name is submitted to TPP Internet and only released to the selling party once the domain name has been signed over to the new registrant.

    3. I own a domain name, how I can I list it for sale?

      As long as the domain name is with TPP Internet, and you are the registered owner of that domain name, you may list the domain name for sale by entering the Online Management System and clicking on the link for Premium Domains names on the main menu.

      Once you submit your domain name for listing by choosing an asking price and entering your details, an e-mail is sent to the registered owner of the domain name for confirmation. Once we receive confirmation by return e-mail the listing will then become active.

    4. Can I alter a listing once it is made?

      Yes, listings may be changed at any time as long as there is not an active transaction to buy the domain name in progress.

    5. How much does it cost to sell a domain name?

      TPP Internet does not charge you to list your domain name for sale, instead do we charge a small commission on the purchase price of the domain name. The commission we charge is 15% of the total purchase price.

    6. I have a large number of domain names to sell, how can I have then listed all at once?

      We have a tool designed for domain name owners with quantities of domain names that they wish to list in our system for sale. Please contact your account manager or our retail sales team on 1300 665 491 for assistance.

    7. When I list my domain sale do I have to choose a price?

      Yes, each domain listed needs to have an asking price that you are willing to accept from a potential purchaser. We cannot accept listings that are 'make an offer'.

  • Business Email & Web Hosting
    1. What is hosting?

      Hosting is the space on the internet where your web site is stored. If you think of the internet as a car park, your web hosting is the space on the internet where you park your web site and it's displayed in that space for other people (i.e. your existing and potential customers) to see it.     2. Where are TPP Internet's Servers located?

      TPP Internet is an Australian company, so naturally, our servers are in Australia.

    3. How is bandwidth measured?

      Your usage of bandwidth will be measured according to your inbound and outbound data transfer.

    4. Will I be notified when I'm reaching my bandwidth limit?

      Our system will send you email notification when you approach your product's maximum bandwidth usage. At this point, we recommend that you upgrade your product to allow you more bandwidth (if applicable); otherwise, excess data transfer will be charged at the rate specified in the hosting terms and conditions.

    5. How do I upload my web site?

      When you first set up your hosting account with TPP Internet, our provisioning team would have issued you with your File Transfer Protocol (FTP) details. You can use these details in conjunction with an FTP program to upload your web site content on to our servers so it can be displayed on the internet. Ipswich Inc. offer reasonably priced file transfer software, however you are welcome to use any provider you see fit

    6. How long will it take for my hosting services to be up and running?

      Our technical team will provision your product on our servers within 1 business day. We will then email confirmation of your account including FTP details which you will need to upload your web site. Please remember to allow 24-48 hours for propagation, after this time, your web site will be viewable by servers everywhere.

    7. How do I start sending and receiving mail from my new email address?

      Step by step instructions on configuring email for a number of different email clients are available in our support knowledge base.

    8. What Features are included with TPP Internet's hosting products?

      Yes- Customers may use the 'editing menu' inside the client login section of the Online Management system to manage web and email hosting services.

    10. What Server Operating Systems does TPP provide?

      TPP offers two choices of Server Operating System for your web site hosting, Linux operating systems (Zeus or Apache) or Windows (IIS7). By default, all hosting is provisioned on our Linux platform (Zeus), however you can elect to host your website on our Windows platform by selecting the 'Windows Server 2008' button under the 'Select an Operating System' option within the order flow when ordering any hosting service.

    11. How do I know what Server Operating System is suitable for my needs?

      We recommend that you discuss your hosting needs with your website designer prior to purchase, to ensure that your hosting is provisioned on the appropriate hosting platform.

    12. Scheduled maintenance

      TPP Internet reserves the right to perform scheduled maintenance at any time, however, we will endeavour to do this at a time that is least disruptive to the majority involved, as server maintenance may, or may not cause disruptions to services.

    13. Backing up data

      TPP Internet routinely back up data stored on our servers to ensure that in the unlikely event of failure every precaution to protect our client's data has been met.

    14. Can I Resell TPP Internet's Hosting Products?

    1. What are the Web Site Builder products?

      TPP's range of Web Site Builder products are unique tools designed to assist users in developing professional websites, without the cost or complexity of traditional website design.

    2. Do I have to be a website designer to use the Web Site Builder products?

      No! Anyone with a computer and Internet connection can use these simple tools to build their own website. If you can use word processing software, you can use this!

    3. Is there a demo that I can try?

      Yes. Visit our demo site and click 'test drive', you can try all the functionality of the system before you decide to purchase.

    4. Can I use the Web Site Builder with any hosting products?

      Yes you can. You can even use the free hosting space some ISP's give to their clients. If you do not currently have hosting, TPP can provide this for you. Visit our hosting page for further information.

    5. What products are available in the Web Site Builder range?

      There are four different products available in the Web Site Builder range: Business Card, Personal, Small Business and E-Commerce websites. Together, the 4 products cater for every market from the personal user to large corporations.

    6. What are some of the basic features common to all the products?

      * Simple to use - if you can use a word processor you can design your own website!

    7. Can I upgrade to another product as my business grows?

    8. What if I want to change my website content to reflect changes to my business?

      After you have completed your initial website design, you can make unlimited changes to your website content - we do not charge you for making changes, within the licence period.

    9. Do I need specialised software (such as graphics software)?

      No. The website building products come with all the tools you will need to create a professional, unique website.

    1. What is an SSL Certificate?

      An SSL (secure sockets layer) certificate ensures that any information sent to your web server from your web site will be scrambled as it travels across the internet, making it impossible for any third party to intercept or steal.

    2. How do SSL Certificates Work?

      It also delivers peace of mind for your customers as an SSL Certificate allows them to check the following information before entering their sensitive data to your web site:

      * The Domain Name (or URL) that the certificate was issued for
      * The owner of the certificate (your organisation name)
      * The physical location of the owner
      * The validity dates of the certificate.

    3. How do I install a GeoTrust SSL Certificate?

      Installation instructions vary depending on the server type that your site is running on. Instructions on how to install SSL Certificates on most of the common server types can be found at: http://www.geotrust.com/quickssl/install/index.htm. Simply click on the server type that you are running and follow the instructions.

      Note: Even though these instructions are listed for the QuickSSL product, the same procedures will be followed for TrueBusinessID, and QuickSSL Premium

    4. What is a CSR Request, how do I generate one?

      A CSR Request is short for 'certificate signing request'.

      If you have an ISP, they will generate a CSR file for you upon request, otherwise, Certificate Signing Request instructions are available for the web servers listed below.

    5. What Server Software does GeoTrust SSL certificates run on?

      GeoTrust SSL Certificates run on most systems and server configurations (IIS 4.0+, Apache, BEA Weblogic, Tomcat etc). For an exhaustive list, please see the official GeoTrust Server Compatibility listing.

    6. Where can I get more information on GeoTrust SSL Certificates?

    7. What are the changes to SSL for the 2048 Bit Root update?

      Our SSL vendors, GeoTrust are in the midst of a transition from 1024-bit roots to new, more secure 2048-bit roots.

      As a result of this upgrade, there are some changes to how SSL certificates are purchased through TPP, specifically relating to the ordering and installation.

      Please note: Currently installed SSL certificates are not affected by the changes. However, new certificates along with renewals of existing certificates will required 2048-bit Certificate Signing Requests (CSRs) in the future, depending on the specific certificate brand and type.

      The new 2048-bit root updates will go live on the following date:

      - GeoTrust - July 22, 2010

      TPP Internet will begin requiring 2048-bit CSRs at the same time as the root updates occur. You may already submit 2048-bit CSRs for all products. In fact, Extended Validation (EV) certificates already required 2048-bit CSRs. If you submit an SSL order with a 1024-bit CSR after the root updates take place on the date listed above, the order will fail.

      Installation Changes Required
      Additionally, the SSL certificate installation process will change for all GeoTrust certificates (excluding True BusinessID with EV) issued after the go live date listed above. Users will be required to install an intermediate Certification Authority Certificate in line with industry best practices. The excluded products listed already require the installation of this intermediate certificate.
